September 2 through 9, 2016 – Solidarity Week with Palestinian Political Prisoners
Palestine is today an occupied territory, assailed by attacks and injustice. Its population suffers incarceration under conditions that violate human rights and international humanitarian law, imprisoned by the occupation force: the State of Israel.
The imprisonment of Palestinians isn’t directed to any specific sector of society, but rather includes all Palestinian men and women: children, adolescents, adult men and women, Parliament members…if you’re Palestinian, you’re punishable.
Today there are about seven thousand (1) Palestinian political prisoners, of which 715 are subjected to administrative detention (2), 414 boys and girls are under 16 years old, 70 are women, 7 are members of the Palestinian Parliament, among so many others who have been imprisoned for years.
The signees express our solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners and with the Palestinian people that continues its decades-long struggle against the occupation.
For the liberation of all the Palestinian political prisoners.
For a just peace that guarantees the rights recognized in the United Nations Resloutions.
For a free Palestine.
We invite you to accompany us in this week of solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners, to let them know they’re not alone.
- According to Addameer organizations in May 2016 there are calculated to be 7000 prisoners in all. See http://www.addameer.org/statistics .
Administrative detention is a procedure that allows the Israeli military to hold people prisoner indefinitely, keeping the information secret without informing as to charges, which prevent them from having trials. See http://www.addameer.org/israeli_military_judicial_system/administrative_detention
